Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Hat and face sides
Draw a long curve for the top of a floppy hat, starting on the left and bending down toward the right. Then add a wavy line down the left side and another down the right side for the sides of the face.
Step 3: Hat band and pom-pom
Draw two long lines side by side across the hat, close together, to make a fat band. Then add a small circle at the right end of the hat for the pom-pom.
Step 4: Top of the beard
Draw a curvy line across the face, a little below the hat band, for the top of the beard. Then add a short curve going down on the left side.
Step 5: Eyes and smile
Add two little dots for the eyes. Under them, draw a small happy curved smile.
Step 6: Coat and legs
Under the beard, draw a wavy line for the fluffy collar. Then draw the round coat below it, with a small hook on the right for the hand. Finish with four short lines under the belly for the legs.
Step 7: Belt buckle
In the middle of the coat, on the belt line, draw a small square for the buckle.
Step 8: Arm and mitten
On the left side of the coat, draw a curved line for the arm. At the bottom of it, add a small circle for the mitten.
Step 9: The gift sack
Next to the right hand, draw a big rounded bag shape, like an egg lying on its side, for the sack of presents.
Step 10: Boots
At the bottom of the legs, draw two wide ovals side by side for the boots.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid in a Santa costume
- Draw the two hat band lines close together and make them about the same length so the band looks even.
- The wavy collar is the trickiest part. Make a few small bumps in a row, like little clouds, instead of one long wiggle.
- Draw the sack after the coat so you know where to stop, and make it a big egg shape so it looks full of presents.
