How to Draw a Seahorse (Easy Step by Step)
This little seahorse wears a tiny crown and a happy smile, which makes it a fun one to draw. It is built from simple shapes: a round head, a long snout, a round tummy, and a curly swirl for the tail. Once you can draw those, you can draw almost any sea creature.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Head and snout
Draw a round head near the top. Then add a long, narrow snout sticking out to the left, and close it with a little rounded end.
Step 3: Body and curly tail
Draw one curved line from under the chin down the front of the body. Draw a second line from the back of the head down the other side. Let the lines swell into a round tummy, then narrow and meet in a swirly curl at the bottom.
Step 4: The bumpy fin
On the right side of the body, draw a puffy fan with a bumpy, cloud-like edge. Start and end the bumpy line where it touches the body.
Step 5: Fin lines
Inside the fan, draw two short, nearly straight lines. Start each one at the body and stretch it out into the fin.
Step 6: A tiny crown
On top of the head, draw a zigzag line with three pointy peaks. Start and end it on the head, so it looks like a little crown.
Step 7: Eye and smile
Draw a small dot for the eye in the upper part of the head. Below it, draw a short curved smile that bends up at the end.
Step 8: Tummy stripes
Draw three curved lines across the round tummy, one under the other. Make each one bend downward like a gentle smile and reach both sides of the body.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a seahorse
- Draw the head lightly first, then add the snout. If the snout comes out too short, just erase and stretch it longer.
- The tail swirl is the trickiest part. Go slowly and curl the line inward, like a snail shell.
- Draw the tummy stripes after the body is finished, and curve each one a little so the belly looks round instead of flat.

Try a bright orange or teal seahorse with a golden yellow crown and stripes in a matching lighter shade. For a creative twist, color each tummy stripe a different color of the rainbow.
Seahorse fun fact for kids
Seahorses are fish, and the dads are the ones who carry the babies. The male seahorse holds the eggs in a special pouch on his belly until the tiny seahorses are ready to be born.
