How to Draw a Bunny: easy drawing guide for kids

How to Draw a Bunny (Easy Step by Step)

A bunny is a great first animal to draw because it is built from a few simple shapes: a wide oval head, a rounded body, and two tall ears. The little face with two dots and a tiny smile makes it look friendly right away. Once you can draw this one, you can change the ears and tail to make lots of other bunnies.

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The head

Draw a big, wide oval near the top of your page. This is the bunny's face, so leave room above it for ears and room below it for the body.

  3. Step 3: Body sides

Start at the bottom left of the head and draw a curve that bulges out and then goes down. Do the same on the bottom right of the head. Leave the bottom open for now.

  4. Step 4: The long ears

On top of the head, draw two tall, narrow ovals, one on the left and one on the right, leaning a little outward. Let the bottom of each ear touch the top of the head.

  5. Step 5: The big feet

At the bottom of the body, draw two wide, flat ovals, one on each side. Then draw a gentle curve between them to close the bottom of the body.

  6. Step 6: Eyes, nose and mouth

Draw two round dots for eyes in the middle of the face. Between them and a little lower, draw a tiny upside-down T for the nose, with two small curves under it for a smile.

  7. Step 7: The fluffy tail

On the right side of the body, draw a rounded curve that bumps outward like the top of a little cloud. Start and end it on the body line.

  8. Step 8: Inner ears and tummy

Draw a thin curved loop inside each ear, like a smaller ear tucked inside. Then draw two small ovals side by side on the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Whiskers and tail curl

Draw three short lines fanning out from each side of the face. Then add one tiny curved line inside the tail to make it look fluffy.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a bunny

  • Draw the head oval first and keep it wide, because the ears and whiskers need room around it.
  • Make both ears about the same height by drawing the first ear, then checking that the second one tops out at the same spot.
  • Keep the two body curves about the same on each side so the bunny sits up straight.
  • Draw the whiskers last, and fan them out so they do not touch the face.

How to color your bunny drawing

Soft gray, white, or light brown all look like real bunnies, and pink works nicely inside the ears and on the tummy ovals. For a creative twist, make a rainbow bunny with a different color for each ear and the tail.

Bunny fun fact for kids

A rabbit's front teeth never stop growing, so rabbits chew on hay and twigs to keep them worn down to the right size.
