Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Right side of head
Draw a curved line in the upper right of your page, like the right side of a head. Leave a few tiny gaps in the line, because the ears will join it later.
Step 3: The ears
Add a small round ear on the top right, like a half circle sitting on the head. Then draw a wavy line on the left that curls down at the end, like a floppy ear shaped like a cloud.
Step 4: Body and back leg
Start at the top left of the big guide oval and draw a long curve down the left side. Sweep it along the bottom into a long, stretched-out back leg, then add a short curve and a rounded foot on the right side of the oval.
Step 5: The front legs
On the left, draw a bendy line that curves up like a front leg reaching toward the head, with a little paw at the top. On the right, draw a short curved line that swings out from under the head like the other front leg.
Step 6: The tail
On the left edge of the body, draw a small, narrow loop shaped like a leaf. Let it touch the body outline so it looks attached.
Step 7: Face and tongue
Draw two small dots for eyes, then a little nose with a short line down from it. Add a happy smile curve with a small U-shaped tongue underneath. Finish with a short line on the right where the arm meets the head.
Step 8: The ball
Draw a round circle in the bottom right corner, away from your dog. Go slowly and try to end where you started.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dog jumping
- The long back leg is the trickiest part. Draw it as one smooth, stretched curve, and slow down at the foot so the bottom stays round.
- Leave small gaps in the head outline where the ears join it. It makes the dog look fluffy, and it is easier than lining up every edge.
- Draw the face last and keep it small. Place the two eye dots close to each other, then add the nose between them and just below.

Dog jumping fun fact for kids
Puppies are born with their eyes closed. They usually open them when they are about two weeks old.
