How to draw a bobsled step by step

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: Sled body and nose

Draw the top of the sled as a smooth hill that curves down on the right. On the left, draw a tall pointed nose, then connect it with a long slanted line along the bottom, ending in a little rounded tip at the far left.

  3. Step 3: Sled bottom and tail

Draw a long gently curved line along the bottom of the sled, near the right end. Loop it around into a rounded tail on the right, and add a short curved line on the bottom near the middle.

  4. Step 4: Little runners

Draw three tiny slanted shapes under the sled, like little skis: one near the front on the left, one near the middle, and one small one at the back on the right.

  5. Step 5: The front helmet

Draw a big round helmet above the front of the sled. Start at the bottom left, curve up and over the top, and stop on the right with a small gap at the bottom.

  6. Step 6: The second helmet

Draw a second, smaller round helmet to the right of the first one. Curve it up and over like the first helmet and leave a gap at the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Helmet visors

Inside each helmet, draw a curved line across the front to make the face opening. It starts at one side of the helmet, curves over the forehead, and comes back down the other side.

  8. Step 8: Faces and shoulders

Draw two little dot eyes and a small smile on each rider. Then draw a curved line under each face for the chin and shoulders, with short lines for arms resting on the sled.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a bobsled

  • Start the sled with a light egg shape tipped to one side. It is easier to fix a pencil sketch than a finished line.
  • The riders sit behind the top edge of the sled, so draw the sled first and stop the shoulder lines where they meet it.
  • The runners are small, so keep them short and slanted the same way. Think of them as tiny skis under the sled.

Bobsled fun fact for kids

Bobsled races are held on a narrow track made of ice, and the sleds can go faster than 80 miles per hour. Riders wear helmets to stay safe.

Questions about drawing a bobsled

What shapes do I need to draw a bobsled?

You need a long egg or bean shape for the sled, two circles for the helmets, and three small slanted shapes for the runners.

How do I make the riders look cuter?

Keep the faces simple with two round dot eyes and a small curved smile. Make the helmets big and round so the riders look cozy.

How do I draw the riders sitting inside the sled?

Draw the sled first, then the helmets above it. Stop the shoulder and arm lines where they meet the sled's top edge so it looks like the riders are tucked inside.
