Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Dad's head and face
Draw a big round head on the left, starting with a small curl of hair on top and curving around the left side. Add two dot eyes and a smile inside, and leave a small gap on the right side for now.
Step 3: Dad's body
Under the head, draw a tall rectangle with rounded corners for dad's body. Start the top edge right below his chin.
Step 4: Dad's legs
From the bottom of his body, draw two straight lines going down for legs. Add a short line at the bottom of each leg, pointing outward, to make the feet.
Step 5: Girl's face and arm
Next to dad, draw a smaller face with a rounded chin, two dot eyes and a smile. The outline goes up the sides and stays open at the top. Then add a short slanted line below and to the right of her face for her arm.
Step 6: Pigtails and head top
Close the top of her head with a curved line. Then draw a rounded leaf shape on each side of her head for the pigtails, with each one hanging down like a floppy ear.
Step 7: Girl's dress and legs
Below her head, draw a triangle with a flat bottom and rounded corners for her dress, with the top touching her chin. Then draw two short lines down from the dress for her legs, with a tiny foot at the bottom of each.
Step 8: Dad's arms
Finish dad's head by closing the curve on its right side. Draw a short slanted line on the left of his body for one arm. Then draw a long slanted line from his right side down to the girl, ending with a short line that touches her dress.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a father and daughter
- Draw dad first and make him taller than the girl, so the top of her head reaches about the middle of his body.
- The hand-holding arm is the trickiest line. Start at dad's side, draw one long slanted line down toward the girl, and end it at her dress.
- Pigtails look best when both are the same size. Draw one, then look at it while you draw the other on the opposite side.
