This little knight is built from simple shapes: a dome for the helmet, rounded bumps for the shoulders, and a shield with a pointed bottom. The round dot eyes and tiny smile make it friendly instead of scary. It is a good first step toward drawing castles, dragons, and other storybook heroes.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Helmet dome
Draw a curved arch like half of a circle for the top of the helmet. Below it, draw a short wavy line from one side of the arch to the other.
Step 3: Collar and body
Under the helmet, draw a short curved line for the collar. Then draw a straight line down on the left side, and a long gently curved line across the bottom for the body.
Step 4: Ear plates
On each side of the helmet, draw a small tall oval like a jelly bean. Add a short line going down from each oval, and curve the left one in toward the collar.
Step 5: Shoulder pads
Draw a rounded bump on each side below the helmet for the shoulder pads. Make the left one a closed shape and the right one an open curved arch.
Step 6: Left arm
On the left, draw a rounded sausage shape that hangs down from the shoulder pad. Close it with a rounded end for the hand.
Step 7: Legs and boots
Draw two short legs coming down from the bottom of the body. At the end of each leg, draw a rounded boot that pokes out to the side.
Step 8: Helmet plume
On top of the helmet, draw a small curly feather shape that goes up and then flicks to the right like a little flag.
Step 9: The shield
On the right side of the body, draw a shield with a wavy top edge. Curve both sides down to meet in a rounded point at the bottom.
Step 10: Eyes and smile
Under the wavy line on the helmet, draw two round dots for eyes. Between them, a little lower, add a tiny wavy smile.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a suit of armor
- Draw the helmet dome first and keep your lines light. The ear plates and the plume sit on the helmet, so a nice round dome makes the whole knight look right.
- Draw the two shoulder pads about the same size so the knight looks balanced.
- Draw the shield last so it can overlap the body and the shoulder pad. Curve both sides down to the point so the halves look alike.

Suit of armor fun fact for kids
Full suits of armor in the Middle Ages usually weighed around 40 to 60 pounds, but the weight was spread across the whole body, so knights could still walk, climb, and get on a horse.
