  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round top

Draw a wide rounded dome like a big mushroom cap. Start on the left, curve up and over with a tiny dip in the middle of the top, then come down on the right, leaving the bottom open for now.

  3. Step 3: The little knob

On top of the dome, draw a small loop like a tiny handle or a ring. Its two ends touch the dip in the top of the dome.

  4. Step 4: The neck line

Close the bottom of the dome with a gently curved line, like a smile. It joins the two bottom ends of the dome.

  5. Step 5: The curvy body

From each end of the smile line, draw a side that curves in at the waist and swells out again near the bottom. Make both sides match, like a vase.

  6. Step 6: The belt line

Join the two sides at the bottom with another gentle curved line, like a belt around the body.

  7. Step 7: The round base

Under the belt, draw a short, wide curve like a flat cup. Start at the left end of the belt, curve down and across the bottom, then swing up on the right.

  8. Step 8: The shiny spot

Near the top left of the dome, add a short curved stroke. It shows where light shines on the shiny wood.

  9. Step 9: Peppercorns

Draw two round peppercorns that touch each other, next to the right side of the base. Then add one small oval peppercorn far away on the left, and fill them all in dark.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a pepper mill

  • Draw the two sides of the body one after the other and check that the waist is at about the same height on both. A light center line helps.
  • Keep the curved lines at the neck and the belt gently bent, like a soft smile, so the mill looks round instead of flat.
  • Make the peppercorns different sizes and let the two big ones touch each other next to the base. Filling them in with a dark crayon makes them pop.

Pepper mill fun fact for kids

Pepper comes from the dried berries of a climbing vine. The round peppercorns are picked, dried until they turn dark and wrinkly, and then ground in a mill to release their spicy flavor.

Questions about drawing a pepper mill

You need a dome for the top, a small loop for the knob, and two curvy sides joined by gently curved lines. A short, wide curve makes the base, and little round dots make the peppercorns.

Draw each side in one slow, steady stroke instead of tiny pieces. Lightly sketch the shape first and then go over it with a darker line.

Add the small shiny stroke on the dome and a few peppercorns beside the base. Those little details make it feel like it is sitting in a real kitchen.
