How to draw a cozy cottage step by step

How to Draw a Cozy Cottage · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round roof

Draw a big, puffy dome like half of a pumpkin. Then add a wavy line across the bottom to close it, like the bumpy edge of a thatched roof.

  3. Step 3: Walls and ground

Draw a straight line going down from each end of the roof, one on the left and one on the right. Join them at the bottom with a long, slightly curved line for the ground.

  4. Step 4: The front door

In the middle of the wall, draw an upside-down U that starts and ends on the ground line. It looks like a tall, round-topped arch.

  5. Step 5: The doorknob

Add a small dot on the right side of the door, about halfway down.

  6. Step 6: Two windows

Draw a small square with soft, rounded corners on each side of the door. Try to make them about the same size.

  7. Step 7: The left chimney

On the left side of the roof, draw a small box with a flat top and a curved bottom that sits on the roof.

  8. Step 8: Chimney and smoke

On the right, draw a small slanted box sitting on top of the roof for the chimney. Above it, draw a puffy cloud of smoke with a bumpy top.

  9. Step 9: Flowers and bushes

Draw a flower at each bottom corner with a small circle in the middle and rounded petals around it. Then tuck a little bumpy bush beside each flower.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a cozy cottage

  • Draw the roof dome nice and wide first. It is the biggest part, and the walls tuck underneath it.
  • The wavy line under the roof can be tricky. Make soft bumps like gentle hills instead of trying to make one perfect line.
  • Use the ground line as a guide. Start the door arch right on it so the door does not float in the air.

Try golden yellow for the thatched roof, a warm cream for the walls, and a bright red or blue door. You could also color the windows yellow so the cottage looks like it is glowing at night.

Cozy cottage fun fact for kids

Many old cottages in England had thatched roofs made from dried straw or reeds. A well-made thatched roof can last for decades.
