A peanut is a friendly one to draw because it starts with one tall oval and a pinched waist, so the shape has a round head on top and a bigger belly below. Add two little arms, two tiny feet and a smile, and you have a cute character with lots of personality. The open shell on the side makes a fun extra to draw.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The peanut shell
Start at the top and draw a big rounded head. Then pinch in a little for the waist and curve out into a bigger, rounder belly that closes at the bottom.
Step 3: The little arms
On each side of the waist, draw a short curved line that starts at the body and arcs outward and down, like a small hook. Make both arms about the same size.
Step 4: The two feet
At the bottom of the belly, draw two small U shapes side by side. They should hang just below the body like tiny feet.
Step 5: Eyes and smile
Draw two small round dots for eyes in the middle of the head. Add a little curved smile between them, a bit lower down.
Step 6: Belly dots
Fill the lower belly with small dots in loose rows, like the speckles on a real peanut shell. Try to space them out evenly.
Step 7: The open shell
Off to the lower right of your peanut, draw a wide shape like a number 8 lying on its side, with a dip in the top and bottom.
Step 8: The two nuts
Inside the open shell, draw one small circle in the left half and one in the right half. These are the peanuts tucked inside.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a peanut
- Sketch a tall oval first, then draw one smooth outline around it that pinches in at the waist, with a smaller round head on top and a bigger belly below.
- Make the arms start right at the waist and curve outward and down. Keep them the same size so your peanut looks balanced.
- For the belly dots, draw a row at a time and leave even gaps. It is fine if they are not perfect, since real peanut shells are bumpy.

How to color your peanut drawing
Use light tan and golden brown for the shell. For a creative twist, color the two nuts inside the open shell in a slightly darker brown than the shell.
Peanut fun fact for kids
Peanuts are not true nuts. They grow underground and are in the same plant family as beans and peas.
