How to Draw a Birthday Card (Easy Step by Step)
A birthday card is a great first drawing because it is built from simple shapes: rectangles, an egg, and a few loops. You get a cake, a candle, a balloon, and a bow all on one little page. Once you can draw it, you can make a real card for someone you love.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The card
Draw a tall rectangle with rounded corners for the front of the card. Then add a thinner shape sticking out from the right side, like the card is opening.
Step 3: The cake
Near the bottom of the card, draw a wide rectangle with rounded corners for the cake. Make it a little more than half as wide as the card front.
Step 4: Wavy frosting
Inside the cake, near the top, draw a wavy line from one side of the cake to the other, like little hills.
Step 5: The candle
On top of the cake, draw a small tall rectangle with no bottom line, so it stands on the cake.
Step 6: Balloon and flame
In the top left, draw a big egg shape with a small point at the bottom, then a wiggly string hanging down from the point. Then draw a tiny oval flame floating just above the candle.
Step 7: The bow
In the top right, draw two loops side by side, like a sideways figure eight. Add a small knot in the middle and two ribbon tails going down.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a birthday card
- Draw the big card rectangle first and use its whole height, so the cake, balloon, and bow all have room.
- The balloon is the trickiest part. Start with a light egg shape, add a small point at the bottom, then trace over it once it looks right.
- For the wavy frosting, make the hills about the same size and let the line reach both sides of the cake.
