How to Draw a Jacket (Easy Step by Step)
A jacket is a fun first clothing drawing because it is built from simple shapes: a square body, two long sleeves, and a few small boxes. Once you have the shape, you add a zipper, two pockets, and a hem to make it look real. It is a nice drawing for practicing straight lines and rounded corners.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Neckline, shoulders, sleeves
Start at the top and draw a gentle wavy curve for the neckline. From each end, draw a slanted line out to the shoulder, then a long slanted line down to make the outside edge of each sleeve.
Step 3: Body sides and bottom
Draw a short straight line going down from under each arm. Join the two lines at the bottom with a long straight line that has softly rounded corners.
Step 4: Collar and zipper pull
Under the neckline, draw two short slanted lines that meet in a small V in the middle for the collar. Then draw a tiny rounded square just below the V for the zipper pull.
Step 5: The zipper
Draw one long straight line from the bottom of the zipper pull all the way down to the bottom of the jacket.
Step 6: Inner sleeves and cuffs
On each side, draw a slanted line from the body down to the end of the sleeve to finish the sleeve. Then draw a small tilted box at the end of each sleeve to make the cuff.
Step 7: First pocket
On one side of the zipper, low on the jacket, draw a square with rounded corners. Add a small dot inside it, near the middle.
Step 8: Second pocket
On the other side of the zipper, draw a second rounded square about the same size as the first. Add a small dot inside it to match.
Step 9: The bottom band
Draw a straight line across the jacket just above the bottom edge, from one side to the other. It crosses the zipper and makes the hem.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a jacket
- Draw both sleeves at the same angle, slanting out and down. Look at the first sleeve as you draw the second so they match.
- Keep the collar small. Draw the two short slanted lines slowly so they meet in a V right above the zipper pull.
- Draw the two pockets one after the other, and keep them the same size and the same distance from the zipper.
